Terms of Service

Last updated 29 August 2026

The short version

  • DIY Sounds is free, and provided as-is.
  • The numbers are predictions, not measurements. Check them before you cut wood or power a driver.
  • You keep ownership of the designs you publish. Marking one copyable lets other people use and adapt it.
  • Be decent to other builders. We can remove content and accounts that are not.
  • You are responsible for what you build and how you use it.

1. Agreement

These terms are between you and the operator of DIY Sounds (diysounds.com), and apply whenever you use the site — with or without an account. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Our Privacy Policy forms part of these terms.

2. What DIY Sounds is

A free tool for designing loudspeaker enclosures: it estimates driver parameters, models enclosure behaviour, draws a cabinet and produces a cut list. There is also a community area where people can publish designs and discuss them.

It is offered free of charge, with no subscription and no advertising. We may change, limit or discontinue any part of it at any time.

3. The engineering disclaimer

Read this one properly. Everything DIY Sounds produces is a prediction from a model, not a measurement of a real object, and the community's designs are the untested work of other members of the public.

The driver estimator infers Thiele/Small parameters from a description of a driver. Those are informed estimates, and a real driver will differ — often substantially. Enter measured parameters from your driver's datasheet whenever accuracy matters.

The enclosure solver models idealised behaviour. It does not fully account for the material you build from, how well it is braced, leaks, damping, the acoustics of the room or vehicle, the amplifier driving it, or how the driver behaves when hot or near its limits. Response curves and coverage maps are free-field predictions: read their shape, not their absolute level.

Cut lists and dimensions are generated from a model. Check every dimension against your own measurements and your actual material before cutting anything. We are not responsible for wasted material or for a cabinet that does not fit.

Building enclosures involves power tools, and driving loudspeakers involves electricity and sound pressure that can damage hearing and equipment. You are solely responsible for working safely, for complying with any regulations that apply where you are — including those covering vehicle installations — and for the consequences of anything you build.

4. Your account

You need an account only to publish, comment or like, and accounts are created through Google Sign-In. You must be at least 13 years old to create one.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your Google account secure, and tell us if you think yours has been misused. You may stop using your account at any time and ask us to delete it.

5. Your designs and your content

You own what you make

Designs, descriptions and comments you publish remain yours. We claim no ownership of them.

What you allow us to do

By publishing or posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce and display that content for the purpose of operating the site and showing it to other users. This licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies retained briefly in backups.

The copy setting

When you publish a design you decide whether other people may copy it into their own projects.

What you promise about your content

By publishing or posting, you confirm that:

6. How to behave here

This is a community of people building things. Do not:

Disagreeing with someone's design is fine and useful; that is what the comments are for. Being unpleasant about it is not.

7. Moderation

We may remove any content, or suspend or delete any account, that breaks these terms — with notice where practical, and without it where the content is harmful or unlawful. Design authors may also delete comments on their own designs.

If you believe content here infringes your copyright, email us with enough detail to identify it and we will look into it. If you think we removed something wrongly, email us and say so.

8. Availability

We make no promise that the site will be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. It may go down, lose data, or be discontinued.

Because the calculator saves projects in your own browser rather than on our servers, your local projects are not backed up by us and cannot be recovered by us. Export anything you would be upset to lose.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

DIY Sounds is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the calculations are accurate, that a design will perform as predicted, or that content published by other users is correct, safe or buildable.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, materials, profits, equipment, or hearing, arising from your use of DIY Sounds or anything you build using it.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months (which, this being free, is nothing) or USD 50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from content you publish, from your breach of these terms, or from your infringement of anyone else's rights.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and for material changes we will say so on the site. Continuing to use DIY Sounds after a change means you accept the updated terms.

13. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force. Our not enforcing a provision at some point does not waive it. These terms are the entire agreement between us about the site.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, and the courts there have jurisdiction over any dispute — without depriving you of any protection given by the mandatory law of the country where you live.
